1123435 - Feature Proposal: Business Card Message [Communications/Contacts Share Activity] for MMS

Building upon the base I proposed in Bug: 1123426, I'd like to see the outbound Contact/Communications share activity for MMS in FFXOS expanded and improved upon.

The basic idea for the Business Card Message type for MMS is that it would be comprised of the following parts:
MMS Subject: %FIRSTNAME% %LASTNAME% [vCard]
MMS Body (1/3): Insert stored contact picture from Communications/Contacts, if available
MMS Body (2/3): Insert plain text content as per Bug: 1123426
MMS Body (3/3): Attach vCard for contact named %FIRSTNAME% %LASTNAME%.vcf

This would, I believe, represent a big improvement in how vCard is displayed and shared compared to other platforms. This view would be more information rich, and would present the recipient and sender both with a  better overview of the content rather than just a generic icon and perhaps not even a displayed name for the file [depending upon platform].

This method also has the distinct advantage of having a "fall back" measure for edge cases where vCard is not properly supported by the MMS recipient, or not wanted for any number of reasons.

Alternate version of the proposed Business Card MMS message type.

I'm not sure on the feasibility of this method, as I don't know if you can set an image as a link to a file attachment in the MMS spec.

This would look/read cleanest though, in my opinion.

I'm not sure of the vcf format, but if it can have a picture inside, maybe we can reuse it ?

Hi Brett,

I think it would be helpful if we can display info of vCard in the message directly, just need to make sure it's visually clean =) 
However, given the major changes in plans for FXOS, the UX team will evaluate all feature after v3 planning, which will have a strong impact on future versions of FXOS. That being said, we're gonna have to put this in backlog for now and see if we want to move forward with this later. Thanks for understanding!

Let's make this a mentored bug and see what we can do from the vcard. If a contributor can make a nice proposition we could include it.
