Firefox for Android

Steps to reproduce:

Samsung Note 2 / 4.4.2 and Firefox 35.0
Samsung Note 4 - model number is SM-N910F. Android version 4.4.4 and Firefox 35.0

With the Notes we having problems with the S-pen and signatures, hence no service reports can be signed. The problem is when the pen is not even touching the screen, it writes a line. Hence no signatures can be written without creating a real mess! I've tried various settings, but can't find a solution.
Pen writing on screen even though you are not touching the screen. S-Pen Air View function switched off.

With Firefox version 34 this was not a issue.

Anyone have a solution.

Regards..Allan

Actual results:

When the pen is not even touching the screen, it writes a line

Expected results:

Should activate when pen touches screen and not when 2 cm away.

I'll see if I can reproduce this on a Note II next week. I assume this happens when the Samsung keyboard turns into a blank pad to write on.

Tried to reproduce this on my Galaxy Note 2 with the S-Pen and could not. I used simple inputs with the pad to write on. The S-Pen did not draw anything in the field when it was not touching the device. Do those reporting this issue have a sample page that reproduces the issue?

Hi Aaron

I will try to get a sample page and attach.

We have a application that has a signature area on which the technicians can get a customer signature.

We have had no application upgrades - only a Firefox upgrade.

In the previous version of Firefox the issue was not there, its only when the new version of Firefox arrived.

I will request a sample from the customer again.

I have taken an example from jQueryMobile page for this event.

https://github.com/jquery/api.jquerymobile.com/blob/master/resources/mobileinit/example1.html

It’s a simple test page. Here you can see, when the event is sent.

Test Page:Open Firefox and call the link below. When you bring the S-Pen closer it recognizes this when about 1 cm away. previously you had to touch the screen before activation.

With this page I can see the behaviour on my Galaxy Note II. However, I also see this behaviour in Chrome. In fact, the same pen-in-air detection happens when navigating with the pen in the device's own Android settings. I can wave the pen a few CM above the screen and I see a little circular target dot cursor. This doesn't sound like a browser bug at all but just how the device works.

It is not the same pen-in-air detection that is happening when the signature starts to write when the pen is a few millimetres above the screen. You can switch off the little circular target in settings but the problem with the signature remains. Thinking that my phone was the problem, I did a factory reset and the problem disappeared when I used INTERNET as my browser on my Note 3. Problem was resolved. Then I downloaded Firefox again and used that as my browser, and the problem returned. I have just tried it on Chrome, which I would really prefer not to have to use, and it worked fine, even better than on INTERNET (which I presume is Internet Explorer). I'm going to have to change my browser if this issue can't be resolved. :(

@petjewels101 and Matthias Grünewald: the OP said the issue was not present with Firefox 34.
Could you test to confirm that, please.

It won't install. I usef your link tried a couple of different options, android x86 -
US and also just android - UK but after downloading and running it it
just says app not installed.
Hi,

Can you still reproduce the issue?

Thanks!
