Details

When i try to install on Linux with a 2001-11-29 installer.tar.gz or sea.tar.gz. The installation process stops just before installing the first module. The windows disappear, and i get the following message in the console: ./mozilla-installer: line 55: 1272 Segmentation fault (core dumped) ./mozilla-installer-bin --sync $@ Something else is weird. The sea.tar.gz build indicates that it will be downloading modules over the Web ("Save modules after downloading?"). I normally use the sea builds, and this is the first time i've ever seen this.
I've now tried installng the sea.tar.gz 2001-11-29-21 Linux trunk build on a different machine. Although the modules actually start installing now, i get the same segmentation fault after one or two of them install. Again, there is this other oddity that although all of the modules are already available locally, the installer is really downloading them from the Web. Changing the summary to reflect this.
Summary: cannot install: segmentation fault → segmentation fault in install, modules available locally still downloaded
do a custom install and deselect dom inspector. if that works then this bug is a duplicate of bug 112831
Installation succeeded for me (the reporter) when the Inspector was deselected, so this is indeed a dupe.

It's so easy to verify dups when the reporter agrees. Verified a dup of bug 112831 - Linux: installer crashes if installing DOM Inspector after downloading. Also changing component to Installer for future searches.
