I can't reproduce this problem. reporter, what are you doing with the
doublequote key that's producing a question mark exactly?

Comments from reporter:
shows up on Debian 2.2 + Mozilla 2001112012 in any
window that you can type into. The " is an ?. However.
I reinstalled on a different partition, this time from
their CD's (that is Linux 2.2.17 instead of
2.2.19pre17) and now the problem is gone. So it was
NOT a Mozilla bug. Sorry for not checking thoroughly.

resolving invalid, but please reopen if you can find what exactly caused the
problem in the first install and if it looks like that change is going to hang
around for a while...

This bug was marked as RESOLVED INVALID because I could not reproduce it with
the same version of Mozilla in a different Debian installation.
I now am REOPENING it because I get exactly the same symptons, on a different
Debian system yet and a later Mozilla version (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686;
en-US; rv:0.9.9+) Gecko/20020416)
The symptoms are slightly different in their occurrence: It will now happen
suddenly e.g. in a mail composer window where on the same line previously I was
using the single/double quote key, I now get question marks. However, it
disappears just by exiting Mozilla and reexecuting.
This happend only on Mozilla, with no other application.

As per comment #4 I got it then. With more recent versions I don't see it anymore
what version of xfree are you using?
Version 4.1.0 Debian sid
what font servers are you using?
xfs-xtt on port 7110
do you have any locales configured other than us-en?
No.
Occasionally I see on a vconsole a message that talks about a "timeout of AT
keyboard". I have a hunch that that is related, but my hunches are often wrong.
Thanks.
