Details
MDN uses the product details languages.json resource to draw its language selector. We need to add new African languages for Marketplace localization: - Ewe (ee) - Hausa (ha) - Igbo (ig) - Lingala (ln) - Swahili (sw) - Wolof (wo) - Yoruba (yo) Of these, Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba are missing from product details. Please add them here so we can finish adding them to MDN.

Note: specifically, we use this file: http://svn.mozilla.org/libs/product-details/json/languages.json

Weekly ping. :mathjazz - do you know how this process works? If it takes this long is it better to just update our languages.json manually?

I can do it. I also need the native spelling of these languages, not just the English spelling.

Eva, can you help us? We need the native name of these locales, and I've see you helped for creating the Bugzilla components (e.g. bug 1118920).

Devon, Ewe is already in the data we have but with the native name Èʋegbe. Should I change for Eʋe? Wikipedia lists Hausa as a language that exists in both Latin and Arabic script, can you confirm that we are targetting a Latin script version? Igbo native name on wikipedia is indicated as "Asụsụ Igbo", can you confirm that Igbo only is enough?

Also CCing Sylvestre as he owns product details but works on Desktop release management. Sylvestre, FYI I am going to add new locale names needed for Firefox OS/Marketplace and regenerate the languages.json file we supply, no impact on Firefox Desktop release data.

Hi Pascal, I will confirm with our linguists and get back to you on this.

For Hausa, i am almost certain we are going to launch in Latin, not Arabic. If Arabic is indeed needed, the FFOS version and the proposed launch date are not feasible at all.

We are waiting for answers from Biz Dev and partner to confirm this one way or another. Don't want to assume. In the meantime, it is good to know what is commonly used these days in Nigeria and Niger.

I am going to update product-details now with the information we have as of today regarding the native language names, that will unblock Luke and his team from a technical point of view. I will keep the bug open until we hear back from the linguists in case we need to update one of the native language names.
