Air Mozilla is a better fit for the Projects feed than the main feed

Recently, Air Mozilla was added to the main feed. However, the posts on this are a bad fit for the mostly textual content of the main Planet Mozilla feed, since they are hard to consume. Also, many of the posts in the Air Mozilla feed relate to meetings, that are otherwise covered in the Projects feed.

I disagree with this in three respects.
- Planet has never been text-only, nor to my knowledge has it ever had restrictions based on content-type. We've long had images, videos and links to both syndicated on Planet.
- It doesn't belong in the Projects feed; the many of the meetings are relevant to a community-wide and org-wide audience.
- Finally, adding AirMo to Planet directly was deliberate, intended to raise its profile and increase people's awareness of and visibility into Mozilla.
With that in mind I'm going to resolve this WONTFIX. If you can convince AirMo's owners or my fellow Planet peers of your position, though, you're welcome to reopen this and I'll act on it directly.

I have to agree with Dirkjan that the AirMo feed is probably a better fit for the project planet since it's quite spammy, especially when multiple posts occur for the same "video" probably due to changing permalinks/guids.

Reopening, and calling in the AirMo module owner. It's possible the problem we really need to solve here is "not reannouncing events" rather than "have airmo on planet at all", but: Peter, I'll defer to your judgement here.

If there's bugs in the Air Mozilla RSS feed I'd love to fix that. Being on the Planet is good for people who've put a lot of planning and work into making a presentation or video. They'll appreciate maximum exposure.
I'm unsure what you mean by "reannouncing events".
Air Mozilla could certainly do a better job of not putting so many videos into the Main channel (what's displayed on the home page) and instead just put things into their respective channels.
We'd be happy to work on some extensions so certain things are possibly ignored in the RSS feed.

Maybe it would work to max out Air Mozilla at one post per day, listing all the videos posting that day? That would make it much less noisy in the feed.

Peter, we should maybe think about a way to use channels and the channel feeds. We could certainly set up a Planet channel and a Projects channel and use those feeds.
The trick would be in figuring out how to do at least semi-automatic assignment of videos to those channels. If we relied on manual channel assignment, I fear that way too many things wouldn't make it into either channel. Right now the only automatically assigned channel is Main.
If we added the Planet channel by default how hard would it be to have the action of setting the Projects channel for an event automagically clear the Planet channel setting? Most of the recurring meetings get cloned quarterly so it wouldn't be *awful* to have to set Projects by hand for the first one each quarter as part of the cloning process.
...and we have a google sheet of all the recurring meetings. Should we move that data into AirMo somehow and use it as an exclusion list?

Bug 1214919 makes it possible to set an "anti channel". I.e. all other events in the main channel EXCEPT a specific one. With this in place we can doctor a specific RSS feed URL to be used by planet.mozilla.org.
Also once the channel has been set we'd be able to use the same channel for http://planet.mozilla.org/projects/ (but obviously not setting it as the anti channel).
Depends on: 1214919

I don't know what has happened to the rule that non-personal feeds are not added to the main planet and have hard time finding a bug (besides 1124849, 891189, 396723) with discussion about raising Air Mozilla profile and increase people's awareness of it and visibility into Mozilla by adding its feed to the main planet.
Could we at least remove Air Mozilla from main planet until it will have feed that is not so spammy and not duplicating projects planet content.

Based on the discussion so far, I'm not convinced AirMozilla's feed is inappropriate for Planet proper, either in general or on content-type grounds, and I'm equally unconvinced that the number of AirMozilla posts is an unreasonable burden. The AirMo module owner is happy with it, and so am I; if there's a duplicate-posts or redundant feed problem with Planet, we can address that in another bug.
