I used timeline v2 to do some recording.

When I start recording, the recording panel says "In progress..."

When I click the button a second time to stop the recording, the
panel still says "In progress..." and there is no visual feedback
that anything has happened. This step can take quite some time.
While it is thinking, the "Click on the button again to stop profiling"
remains in the main timeline panel.

I think the "Click on the ..." text should change immediately when
I click the button to stop recording.

It would also be nice if "In progress..." text in the per-recording panel
changed to something else. I don't know what it would say, but
something like "Processing data for view...".

It would be great if this step could be sped up.
If it can't be made super fast then it may also be nice to give some
feedback about how long it is expected to take. On my machine it takes
nearly 40 seconds to process a 3 second recording.
Wow. 40 seconds on a debug build, or release? Would be also very helpful to get a profile from your slow run (preferably made with the new perf tool itself).

It was a debug build. I rebuilt with optimization and it is much better.
Now I can't make it take 40 seconds -- there is a pause if I make a very long
recording, but nothing like what I was seeing before. If you want to close
this bug as invalid I won't mind.
Still worth investigating why it's so slow on debug. Let's keep this open.
Moving into the Profiler component. Filter on GUTHRIE'S WAVY CAKES.
Component: Developer Tools: Timeline → Developer Tools: Profiler
Closing for now. Should file separate bugs for particular improvements for different transfers/widgets if required.
