To reproduce:
1)Set up two mail accounts (possibly different signatures are needed)
2)hit compose button and write something into the message
3)change from field 

Results: 
message is repalced with signature for the new From field

Expected: either replace only the signature or do nothing with the message

commercial build id: 2001-12-03-06 win98

I set up different signature files on two accounts in a profile. I changed the
from address after typing something in the compose area. Resulted in just
changing the signature and left the contents that I typed. worksforme.

can you try a newer build and give the exact build id.

It works on my system now. It seems it is not consistently reproducible. 

I have tried to change the signature several times while reporting this. But now
it works fine. I even copied text from the message I was writing when this didnt
work.
