User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC; en-US; rv:0.9.6+) Gecko/20011130
BuildID: 2001223008

For the past week or so the Quicktime plug-in has stopped working with embedded
Quicktime files.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Go to www.apple.com/quicktime

Actual Results: A message is reported on the right hand side in a grey box:
"Alert Quicktime is not properly installed."

Expected Results: I expect the Quicktime plug-in to be properly detected.

I am unsure if the Quicktime is the only plug-in which has recently failed. I
have not tested the Realplyer plug-in and had Qucktime set as default for many
other file types and thus replacing other plug-ins.
Paul, have you tried reinstalling QuickTime?
This WFM Mac OS 9.1 with tree pulled this morning.
Greg,

I am using the latest version of Quciktime. Using the exact same version of the
quicktime plug-in in Netscape 4.7 works; in Mozilla build ID 2001113008 the
quicktime plug-ins fails to be recognized.

Brian,
How did you manage to download todays nightly? I tried bothe of the Installers
and both times recieved the error message :"Istalation failed due to error-43."

Is Mac OS 8.6 to ancient a Mac OS to fully support?
good question, I doubt that we support mac 8.6 anymore. Anyone knows for sure?
Thx!
We still support 8.6.

Paul, there's more to QuickTime than merely the plug-in. Please humor me and try
reinstalling it.
I have a big appology to make. I did a reinstall of my complete Quicktime
software and went to to www.apple.com/quicktime and saw the same alert message.
I was about to report that the reinstall did not fix quicktime when I decided to
try one of the Movie Trailers. Viola! Quicktime plays the trailer. For some
reason the main Apple quicktime page fails to detect the Quicktime plugin. Maybe
this is an evangelism bug--it makes Mozilla look bad when the offical Apple
Quicktime page reports that Qicktime will not work. Users will conclude this is
Mozilla/Netscape's fault. I don't have OS 9 so could someone go to
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/ and check to see if the alert about Quicktime
occurs with this OS. If so then this bug should (?) be redirected to evangelism
if this is a fault with the apple page.

I am sorry I didn't fully test this bug. I thought the Apple site was providing
the correct information about quicktime.
This could be related to bug 112508 and, if this is the case, this is our bug. I
am guessing here because my immpression is that JavaScript detection code fails
while the plugin itself is working.

Reporter, could you please check the about:plugins page and see if it looks
normal.
I did an About Plugins and no plugins were listed. The Javascriot console
reported the following error:

Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code:
0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIDOMPlugin.description]" nsresult: "0x80004005
(NS_ERROR_FAILURE)"  location: "JS frame ::
http://ads.web.aol.com/file/adsWrapper.js :: adsCkPlg :: line 80"  data: no]

Is theis Javascript error causing the Apple page to report a Quicktime failure?
Peter, what file on Mac should be removed to enforce our application registry to
refresh? It will be good to know if this is the problem.
You'll need to look in your System Folder for the Mozilla Registry.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Depends on: 112508
Ever confirmed: true
Using Build 2002011003.

The Quicktime plug-in seems to be detected, at least as far as showing up in
"About Prefereces"; however, the control panel doesn't appear for embedded sound
files.
The files play normally, there's just no control bar showing up. I think other
plug-ins are being used instead, although Quicktime is supposedly enabled across
the board.
