User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 9.0; Windows NT 6.0; WOW64; Trident/5.0; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; Media Center PC 5.0; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET4.0C; MS-RTC EA 2; .NET CLR 3.0.30729)
Steps to reproduce:
Started Thunderbird 31.4 this morning, wrote an email, click on the "Attachment" icon and got a "program has stopped working" and "Windows will close the program now"
Actual results:
Thunderbird was shut down.
I reinstalled 31.4, same results. Then I ran Thunderbird in safe mode, thunderbird close again when the 'attachment" icon was clicked. Restarted computer several times. Problem persists.
Expected results:
I should have been able to select an attachment file to add to the email.
Please note, when thunderbird shuts down, no crash reports are generated.

Start *Windows'* safe mode with networking enabled
- win8 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-safe-mode
- win7 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7
- XP http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx
Still In Windows safe mode, start thunderbird in safe mode
- http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/safe-mode
Does problem go away?
- If no, then problem is either: bug in Thunderbird, in your Thunderbird profile, your mail provider. Please post into topic the contents of Help | Troubleshooting | copy text to clipboard
- If yes, (still in Windows safe mode) ... start Thunderbird normally
-- If problem is still gone, then cause is a program loaded during windows startup. Possibilities include: antivirus SW, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates
-- If problem is NOT gone, then cause is likely a Thunderbird addon - eliminate them by disabling each one at a time in Tools | addons | extensions and restarting
