In Category view on FF OS (only), the Dutch word for "Utilities" (Hulpprogramma’s) in the bottom right corner appears as "Hulpprogramm" on one line and "a’s" on a next one. This means truncation a) happens on the wrong position here and b) the truncated word does not contain a hyphen. There are no other strings to compare to see if any proper truncation including a hyphen is taking place elsewhere, but as the hyphen fails, automatic hyphenation is probably not enabled.

Possible ways to fix:

1) Enable hyphenation for this part of the GUI. This is not my favorite choice, as it may do more harm than good and is unreliable IMO (see bug 956514).

2) Create new and unique entities for all categories in FF OS's category view to be localized. This would enable localizers to choose hyphenated category names the way they want them to appear. Not sure whether a category name including a hyphen would cause proper truncation that way, but if not, a ‘hyphen-space’ sequence for the new entity would do the trick, even though that would look like a workaround.

While at it, localized categories apparently show up in en-US alphabetic order, hence showing this ‘H word’ on the Tools position. It would be nice if the order would follow localized names, though that may be worth or already have been covered by another bug.
Ton localized this lately - is there a shorter word we can use there?

I'm afraid there isn't, hence the bug. :) "Hulpprogramma’s" has always been a troublemaker and there really is no shorter word to use in this context. Unlike English, compound words in Dutch are written without spaces, increasing the chance of issues like these, unless we can just hyphenate them properly.

Would it be hard to add specific labels/entities for the graphical view on mobile? (I can't test it right now, but presume this is also valid on Android.) Using "Hulpprogram- ma’s" or "Hulp- programma’s" in those instead of sharing them for both views would solve it for the mobile view, while leaving the desktop view menu items untouched.

Good news. The nav and category list is being redone in bug 1148114. I took the attached screenshot of our -dev server and this bug is fixed. The new nav should go out next week, but it's slipped a bit so we should keep an eye on that bug.

I'm going to mark this fixed though. Thanks.
