Open url, and hover over the preview-image below the big one. 
The unselected and unhovered images don't have a black border.

When you move the mouse into or out of the image, a transition with transparency starts.
During this transition, the previously hq-scaled image is shown with lq-scaling.

After the transition ends, the image is again displayed with hq-scaling.

The same is happening when moving the mouse over the image, but the transition is set to be shorter, so it's not as obvious.
