I found that when the brightness is adjusted first, then nothing happens. Without adjusting, then it seems to work for me. Also to note, if you reboot the device, the sensor seems to work. STR: 1. play with the brightness 2. turn on the auto adjust setting for the screen brightness 3. cover the light sensor

Naoki this seems to be happening on the aries device currently.
