I'm not able to reproduce on Nightly or Release on Note 3 with Android 4.4.2.
I've tried:
1. Bookmark a page via bookmark star -> go to bookmarks -> long tap on bookmark to open the context menu -> tap on "Add to home screen"
2. Bookmark a page via bookmark star -> tap on Options in the toaster notification -> tap on "Add to home screen"
In both cases the bookmark was successfully added to home screen.

On what device/Android version did reproduced this issue? Is this happening on the Nightly builds also?

Alright, this is my setup:
Fairphone (first edition) OS 1.8, Android 4.2.2

I tried it again with Firefox 36.0.1 and Firefox Beta 37.0 (fresh install, no add-ons) and it doesn't work in both browsers.

I'm on the OnePlus One, and I'm seeing the same behavior in firefox 50.0.1; however, the feature works in Nightly

I tried removing the preëxisting bookmarks from the homescreen (that I'd added in previous versions of firefox), and was thereafter able to add new bookmarks to the homescreen with the current version.
Devices:
 - HTC Desire 820 (Android 6.0.1)

Hello,

I would like to investigate this issue a little further to see if it is reproducible. Could you please help me out with some information?
1. What previous version of Firefox did you have installed?
2. What Android version does your OnePlus One have?

I've tried to reproduce this issue using a similar scenario By installing an older version of Firefox adding some bookmarks to the home screen, updating the app and then reading some bookmarks. But i was unsuccessful in my attempts.

Thank you.

*bump*

I can reproduce this issue with an Wiko View with Android 7.1.2. Bookmark icons are just not added to the home screen. But at least Chrome can add bookmark icons to the launcher, so at least some working APIs seem to exist.

The Android ROM uses its own app "Wiko Launcher" (in this case version 1.1.0.6).

So the thing to look at is how e.g. Chrome adds bookmarks to the home screen, why that works and whether the APIs used differ.
Hello,

I am sorry but we do not have a Wiko View in order to verify if this is happening or not. Could you get a log from the device with the issue happening and maybe someone could figure out what's happening there from the log.

Thanks!

The problem here is that it's the phone of a relative living somewhere else, so I currently can't play around with it myself.
How to obtain a log? Enabling developer mode on the phone and then something with adb? I could try to guide the person for getting a log of the issue.

Yes to get a log you need to use adb with developer mode enabled on the device.

With developer mode enabled on your device first you will need to use adb devices in order to verify that the computer recognizes the device.
After you will need to do adb logcat > log.txt this will create a .txt file with a log from the device. While this is running you will need to perform the steps listed in Comment 0. After you are done press Ctrl+C in the CMD window to stop recording your log and upload it here.

An alternative way of doing this is to open the monitor app from the Android SDK tools and just get the log from there.

Thanks!
