From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.5) Gecko/20011023 BuildID: 0.9.5 while using the mail+news browser and pressing "get mail" i see that the mozilla icon and the "wait bar" is animated, but in the status bar there is no text like "Resolving mail.domain.com" "Connecting to 126.96.36.199" "Logging in" and so on. This is realy confusing since most of the time there is a "Document done..." displayed there. At least clean the status bar, better update it for major steps. There is also an issue with the browser (i.e. after resolver errors) but this will be reported in another report. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. set up imap mail account on slow link 2. press "get mail" Actual Results: the status bar does not change and contains "Document: Done (15sec)" Expected Results: the status bar should print out "Connecting"... this is Mozilla on Debian, I do not see a build ID currently, on the about page one can see Gecko/20011023
When I do "Get All Msgs" I see all the statuses, but on consequent "Get All"'s, the status is not reflected until some time passes when Get All shows different statuses again. Is that the problem you're describing?
I have a POP3 server and an IMAP server, and when I get messages, I only see the status of my POP3 server. Furthermore, even if I request new mail exclusively from the IMAP server, it doesn't show any activity in the status bar at all, ever. Just "Document: Done" all the time. It would really be helpful to add some progress updates, like "Connecting", "Querying server", etc.
Similar to bug 33769.
Is this still a problem in a current build? pi
Yes, with build 2002070308 there are still no status updates in the status bar.
Summary: fetching imap mail is not documented in status bar → Fetching IMAP mail is not documented in status bar
Bug 49202? pi
Confirming bug. I think we see this (don't see anything I mean) because the IMAP connection is already established, it doesn't get closed after downloading mail but stays open until mozilla gets shut down. So there's not much to show in the status bar when clicking "Get Messages". Nonetheless it would be nice to see something like "looking for new mail" during one or two seconds to reassure the user.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
Wouldn't it be necessary to have something more complete than Thunderbird semi-informative status bar, like a Window with all tasks being currently done, like in Eudora ? With this status bar it's just totally frustrating and useless, because the user doesn't get a clue about what Thunderbird is doing... Especially with IMAP where anything you do requires actions on the server...
