I went to a page, entered reading mode by pressing the book icon in the location bar, then I disabled reading mode by pressing the same button (now a red color), and now I cannot seem to enter reading mode for any other page.. because I do not see the book icon in the location bar any longer..

I expected to be able to enter and exit the mode by pressing that icon and I don't understand why it would have disappear for all tabs now.
I was unable to reproduce this with Nightly 39.0a1 (2015-03-23) & Windows 7 (x64). Erik, could you please provide a link to the page you were referring to? Also, what operating system were you using when you noticed this?

I'm on a mac and I was using this page https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/request.cgi?action=queue&requestee=evold%40mozilla.com&group=type

I just updated nightly and I don't see the same icons any longer, I see + and - icons, the first time I pressed the + button a sidebar was opened, afterwards pressing + or - did not open the sidebar. Also I can't seem to view the page in reading mode now.
