*This bug has been requested by the smoke test team lead due to the difficulty and inconsistency of running the following test: https://moztrap.mozilla.org/manage/case/2460/
Description:
The facial recognition feature is supposed to recognize faces and frame them with a white circle. This feature is frustrating to use and works sporadically. There are many limiting factors which cause it not to work or not to work 'cleanly' such as glasses, hats, facial hair styles, low light (really, even medium light) and more. Using the back-face camera I can cleanly frame my face and find good light and still not get the recognition reticles. When you are able to get the reticles they do not track cleanly and often lose the subject when panning even the slightest amount; even more-so when approaching the edge of the screen. When it does track it is often does so in a stutter / jerky movement.
Additionally the reticle also reacts to false positives and will occasionally appear framing things that in no-way can be considered a face. One example was a fellow tester saw the face recognition circle while taking a picture of his phone screen (which had homescreen up, no faces present).
Repro Steps:
1) Update a Flame to 20150325010206
2) Launch Camera
3) Point camera at a variety of faces
Actual:
Camera app has difficulty recognizing and tracking faces
Expected:
Camera app will more easily recognize faces. When panning the camera the face will stay framed better and longer

Wesly, any chance improvements to face-tracking are on the partner's radar?

Hi Mike:
Do you mean to improve it in Flame by partner (T2M)? v18D is the last Flame KK SW planned so I don't think we can do that, since the focus will be move to L, too.
For L we get BSP from T2M and bring up B2G in Mozilla side then porting FxOS 2.2 by ourselves, I would assume this give us more room to develop/improve features we expect, so a better target for facial recognition improvement, too?

Wesly, yes. The partner's code is responsible for detecting the faces -- all Gecko does it report their locations to the Camera app -- it's up them to improve the issues identified in comment 0.
Hopefully the L builds will see improvements.
