when visiting a page with an embedded wav file, mozilla 0.9.6 reports "unknown
extension on file" and fails to play the sound. the above url has a number of
wav files you can click on to play. mozilla reports "unknown extension on file"
for those, too. routing through the cache, sure enough, none of the files have
extensions...
why does mozilla strip the extension off all cached files anyway?

i have winamp installed and on yday's trunk build (1212), a helper app dialog
pops up and asks me if I want to use winamp...which I certainly do and the wav
file plays just fine for me. Reporter, what plugins/ apps do u have on ur 98
box? Btw, I did not set up winamp in helper apps prefs (it was picked up
automatically..which is neat)
Bug 91595? I think we also had one assigned to neeti which has been resolved as
invalid if I am not mistaken.

according to the mozilla plug-ins page, i have the following plug-ins installed:
C:\PROGRAM FILES\NETSCAPE\MOZILLA\plugins\np32dsw.dll
C:\PROGRAM FILES\NETSCAPE\MOZILLA\plugins\NPJava11.dll
C:\PROGRAM FILES\NETSCAPE\MOZILLA\plugins\NPJava32.dll
C:\PROGRAM FILES\NETSCAPE\MOZILLA\plugins\NPJava131.dll
C:\PROGRAM FILES\NETSCAPE\MOZILLA\plugins\NPJava12.dll
C:\PROGRAM FILES\NETSCAPE\MOZILLA\plugins\npavi32.dll
C:\PROGRAM FILES\NETSCAPE\MOZILLA\plugins\npaudio.dll
however, the browser also picks up quicktime from my netscape408 plugins. i have
winamp, but no plug-in and a pile of other audio apps.
note: i installed mozilla in C:\PROGRAM FILES\NETSCAPE\MOZILLA
hope this helps!
Try to threw away npaudio.dll. It expects file extesions from cache and does not
generally work well. It takes precedence over QuickTime namely because you put
it in Mozilla pluginsn folder.

Could someone tell me or point me to the wav-plugin faq?
I've had a real problem with plugins especially sound(going back over 2
years).
sound works fine offline(ie via Kaiman, not browser), and for flash/realplayer
online, but when I try to play wavs it comes unstuck.
eg: http://www.peepo.com/2k/things_we_do/
I get a plugin dialogue audio/x-wav,
but cannot understand how to associate wav with say realplayer
edit/ preferences/ helper applications/
I've tried
audio/x-wav (application) //usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/rpnp.so
audio/x-wav (application) //usr/lib/RealPlayer8/realplay
but this does not seem to have helped, i've also tried audio/basic and audio/wav.
my help about plugin page:
rpnp.so
File name: /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/rpnp.so
Mime Type Description
audio/x-pn-real audio-plugin RealPlayer Plugin Metafile
Suffixes Enabled
rpm Yes
thanks

removing npaudio.dll works on win98. no longer a mozilla issue.
however, the quicktime plugin stutters when it encounters embedded audio. does
anyone know of any alternative audio plugins for windows?
