The global search feature has no support for negating/excluding specific terms.
In this instance, I'm searching for the phrase "verizon wireless" to locate some billing statements and the first three pages of results are emails with some dingbat's default "Sent from my Verizon Wireless smartphone" signature. Attempts to remove those messages with additional terms like "-smartphone" or "NOT smartphone" produce the opposite result: only those messages are shown.
Since exclusion or negation isn't mentioned anywhere in the documentation at <https://web.archive.org/web/20150401170043/https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/global-search> I presume the feature doesn't exist.
