User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:36.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/36.0 Build ID: 20150320202338 Steps to reproduce: Simply go thru the update process. Thunderbird (and Firefox, for that matter) does not give me the ability to see if I can expect the new version to contain the things I consider critical. In Thunderbird, if "Calendar" is not working correctly, I have no interest in updating (and will not). Similarly with Firefox, my Add-Ons are checked for compatibility AFTER the update installation. This is NOT ACCEPTABLE. Actual results: I will not update unless I have reassurances that my environment will work. Expected results: Thunderbird (and Firefox) MUST have an option to check for compatibility with the (old) version that I am using.
If I do not update due to this issue, it IS A SECURITY ISSUE.
(Regarding calendar, that's planned to ship together with tb38.)
Component: Untriaged → Application Update
Product: Thunderbird → Toolkit
Summary: Security issue due to inability to screen for compatibilities. → would like Add-Ons to be checked for compatibility BEFORE the update
Version: 36 → unspecified
They are checked for compatibility before you update if you haven't changed the preference under Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Update by unchecking the "Warn me if this will disable any of my add-ons" checkbox. Please provide a specific add-on that you had installed in Firefox that you were not warned about being incompatible with a version of Firefox that you updated to.

Also, Calendar is compatible with the latest Thunderbird version. If it didn't update then this is an add-ons manager bug since it manages the updates to add-ons.
App update does check per comment #3. I verified it works for me and since there has been no reply to the needinfo resolving -> incomplete
