Details
Could bugzilla implement user at isp dot com mailto links instead of user@isp.com? That would prevent spambots (at least until the spambots are programmed with this behaviour)
Gerv: I've been thinking about this since your comments on bug#96405, and was meaning to suggest that maybe Bugzilla shouldn't show email addresses anywhere on the default GUI... If the Bugzilla intent is to not show them, then perhaps they should be removed from the Reporter field, and also from the Additoonal Comments (and anywhere else they appear.) Perhaps, whenever a userid/loginname is shown, if could be a link to a new 'Request Email' page, which could say that 'any communications related to a bug should go in the bug as an additional comment, but you can request the email address for other issues'. Perhaps people should also have a pref to say that they would not want their email address to be requestable? (This would require people to enter some sort of login name/userid as well as their email address when creating accounts, which is not required at the moment.)

No. Any bot which tries to eat Bugzilla, in violation of our robots.txt, is going to get a severe case of indigestion before it gets throttled back by mod_throttle anyway. I know people with specialist Bugzilla email addresses and they've never complained of spam. Having email addresses on Bugzilla is far too convenient and useful to give up. I am against making Bugzilla less useful because of the actions of spammers, and I certainly don't want people to have to edit email addresses by hand in order to use them. If you don't want spam, don't get an email address at all. Gerv

hmm, was going to mark a new bug as a dupe of this one, but the description on the new one is much more complete, so this one loses. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 120030 ***
