On one system I had to scroll down the page to trigger the crash, on another
just waiting as it loaded mozilla crashed.

Output shows it is JAVA crashing. Over to SUN..
Still no crash with Java(TM) Plug-in 1.3.1-b24

Upgraded to glibc-2.2.4-19.3 and it made no difference whatsoever.

Upgraded jdk to 1.3.1_01, and the java plugin still logs an exception, although
mozilla hangs instead of crashing.  In any case brain-dead is no more acceptable
than deceased.

No problems with 2001121715 and 2001121621 with Sun jre 1.3.1-b24 and
1.4.0-beta3 as well as blackdown 1.3.1.  This applet is in one of the dupes of
bug 103461, the messages on the console look similar, I am marking this as dupe.
