I've associated this with offline as this is essentially what offline
mode does, i.e. create a local mbox. It would be so useful to select
multiple messages and save as a local mbox, and it seems like it would
be easy to do, especially since offline mode already does this.
This is especially useful for searches/filters.
So in summary:
There should be a "save to local mbox" option on the context menu
when multiple messages are selected. Or in the advanced search
dialog there should be a "save to local mbox" button also.
Perhaps there should be this option also for message folders as
selecting offline mode is a non intutitive way to do this, and
also it files the mbox away in the default location.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
Reporter,
Your request to 'save to a local mbox' I don't think
will be ever implemented. What about this work around:
-save mesgs and copy/move them to a folder under your
'Local Folder' account? You would always have access to
them online/offline. On the context menu you could do a
copy/move to local folder.
As for advanced search, once you have found the mesg, you could
click the 'File button' and save it to a folder under the
Local Folders account.

OK that's kind of OK. Except you can only move (file) the messages from
the advanced search box, can there also be a copy option? Perhaps
it should copy be default when transfering to local folders/another mail server?
The reason I wanted to be able to save to an explicit mbox file
is it's an easy way to transfer mail around between people/mailers
Reporter,
You are correct, in the advance search menu there is no
way to 'copy' only 'file' a message.
As for copying mulitple messages, you can do that. Just
select which messages and use the 'copy to' function
from the context menu or from the messenger menu under
Message heading.

It's not an offline bug - also, we already have capability to save multiple
messages to a local mbox in the back end, since, as Gary points out, you can
copy multiple messages to a local folder. All you need to do is create a new,
empty local folder, then copy the messages into it. Are you asking for the
ability to do this in one command, where you can create the new folder and copy
the messages in one step, or do you want the ability to create an mbox file
outside the local folder hierarchy, i.e., in another directory?
Component: Offline → Mail Window Front End
Summary: Save multiple messages in local mbox → RFE Save multiple messages in local mbox
Not sure if this is the correct bug for this, but I for one would like a `save
folder to mbox' type option available, for exporting folders to a `standard'
format for archival purposes that's readable by other mail clients.
(For example for sending an archived collection of mails to a friend/colleage
who may not be using mozilla)
If this isn't the bug for this, pointers to the correct bug, or just a `go file
a new bug' suggestion would be welcome.
Karellen,
I think you should open a new bug on your RFE.
I did query through bugzilla and could not find any 'save folder'
requests.
Reporter, did you see comment 4? I will be marking as invalid
