In the current version of Mozilla, only one SMTP server for outgoing messages
can be configured. I can see why this was done, since SMTP send should work the
same regardless of your identity. Unfortunately that is in theory only.

I found out the hard way that in practice this isn't the case. I have a single
profile configured with two POP email accounts - one for home at
[e-mail] and the other for [e-mail] .
Most of the time I'm not connected to Netscape (I have to use PPP dialup with
SecurID for remote access in OS/2 since there is no SERA for it). So I have set
my home mail account as the default account, and the single SMTP server I
configured is my DSL ISP's SMTP server.

When I do dial in to work however,I need to be able to send mail to internal
netscape.com mail aliases. But my ISP's SMTP server is always being used to send
messages. As a result, the messages bounce with "unknown user" since it's not
possible to send mail to these aliases from the outside. This problem could be
resolved by adding an optional SMTP server property to each e-mail account. The
proper SMTP server would then be selected for sending messages depending on the
identity of the author in the message.

You can set up multiple SMTP servers and specify which account uses which
server.   See the advanced button in the SMTP config panel.  Add servers there. 
Each account has an advanced button where you can pick which SMTP server to use.
