This issue is not reproducible on my machine with Firefox version 40.0b3 on Windows 8.1 Professional 32 bit Operating System and Windows 8.1 Single Language 64 bit Operating System.
Links open properly.
Currently 42.0a1 (2015-07-09)
No it is still broken (here) and I've tested it in Safe Mode.
Compare it to Chrome.
If you hold the mouse over a non link area in the bar in Chrome you can move the bar. In Firefox nothing happens.
And the links don't work for me in normal mode. I didn't test that in Safe Mode.
Only other variation might be that I'm a logged in user on NYP.
I will do more tests if required.
By moving the bar, do you mean the left/right arrows of the slide bar? http://i.imgur.com/vWqxL2d.jpg
I don't see those in Firefox or Chrome.
It's as state in the previous comment

This bug has not been triaged, it was reported in branch 40 and exists now in branch 42.

The bug is bad explained. What's clearly your issue? I don't think you explained cleary what you see and what you don't see.
If you speak about the left/right arrow yo move the carousel of articles in the header, it works in FF42 with e10s on or off.
These 2 arrows appear when you hover the mouse on the carousel (on thumbnail or summary, whatever)
Did you test with a clean profile?

Yes I did test it with a clean profile.
I think from memory I tested it in a logged on and not logged on state as well. You need to compare the results with Chrome. Not just look at it in Firefox.
When you click hold on the top bar with the list of articles in Chrome you can slide the bar. In FF nothing happens. If you can't see that I'll screen cap a video of the issue.

As a further note... a near identical approach by the Wall Street Journal has no error.

Hi Yani,
I have tested your issue on latest Firefox release (43.0) and latest Nightly (46.0a1) and could not reproduce it. On the first link that you posted (http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/18/world/middleeast/saddam-hussein-aide-izzat-ibrahim-al-douri-reported-killed.html) the articles on the header can be opened properly, but when I click and hold on the articles from the header I can not slide them on Firefox but neither in Chrome. These seems to be the way that the website carousel is implemented.
In the second link that you posted (http://www.wsj.com/articles/palm-oil-migrant-workers-tell-of-abuses-on-malaysian-plantations-1437933321) when I click and hold on the articles from the header I can slide them on Firefox and as well in Chrome. And the two arrows which appear when you hover the mouse on the articles, are working too.
Firefox: 46.0a1, Build ID: 20151215030221, User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; rv:46.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/46.0
Firefox 43.0, Build ID: 20151208100201, User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; rv:43.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/43.0
Also, can you please test this again on the latest Firefox release (43.0) or latest Nightly (46.0a1, https://nightly.mozilla.org/) and tell me if this still reproduces for you ? When doing this please use a new fresh Firefox profile, maybe also in safe mode (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems). Sometimes this kind of issues could appear when using custom settings, themes or some addons.
Thanks,
Cosmin

Considering the fact that the reporter did not provided more information on my request, I will mark this issue as resolved - incomplete.
If you can still reproduce this, feel free to reopen it and provide the requested information.
Thanks,
Cosmin.

Hi Yani,
I have test again this on latest Firefox release (43.0.4) and latest Nightly (46.0a1), I still can slide them in Firefox browser, if you hover on the articles on the header appears two arrows with whom you can slide them to right and left like in Chrome.
Can you please test in safe mode (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems) and tell me if this still reproduces for you ?
Thanks,
Cosmin.

Hi Yani,
I have test this issue in safe mode on latest Nightly release (46.0a1) but I can slide the articles form the top of the page, I attached a screenshot. Have you updated the flash player? If not, can you please update it and test again and tell me if this still reproduces for you ?
Thanks,
Cosmin.
