As far as I'm concerned, it's currently not possible to locally delete (ie,
move to the trash folder) a particular message that has been already
downloaded from a POP3 server without causing it to be exhibited. For
instance, suppose that a user has downloaded some messages to the inbox
folder. Then, just by looking at 'subject' field of one of the messages,
she/he was able to identify the message and decided that it should be deleted
even without having its contents (body) rendered/displayed. Unfortunately,
when right-clicking the message's row in the list of messages in order to show
the popup menu that allows the message to be deleted, the message is also
displayed. Perhaps the solution would be to modify the right-clicking behavior
so that it selects the row and shows the popup menu, but do not cause the
message body to be displayed. This behavior should also allow a range of
messages to be selected without causing any of them to be displayed.
(Currently, when selecting a range of messages, the first message selected is
always exhibited.)
The motivation for requesting this enhancement are situations when the user
realizes he/she has just got in his/her inbox a message that is known to
contain a virus or that is known to break the html rendering mechanism if
exhibited.
The new right-clicking behavior proposed above could led to states when a
message is selected while the contents of another message is being displayed.
As this might be confusing to some users, the panel that displays the
message's body could be cleared always that a message other than the currently
displayed one is right-clicked (and therefore, selected).
