Ali,

Do you have the full specs for the banners that includes the bleeds? I want to make sure Matt has the information he needs.

Thanks!

Jennifer: Ali is on PTO for the next couple of weeks. Let me know what information you need. I have some old banners with old artwork, so I can take those dimensions. (Actually, I think Matt designed those banners, so he may have the info already.)

Thanks, Janet. You're right that Matt probably has those old files. I was trying to find old bugs for MDN banners and couldn't find them.

I'll leave it to him to ask if he's missing information.

Hi Janet, I am currently working on updating the old MDN banners with the new specs. The old one used a CTA which read 'Sign up for our Developer Program'. Will we be using the same CTA for this, or is there a more appropriate one to go with?

Thanks,
MT

Matt,

That CTA is definitely obsolete. I'm guessing that the URL that goes with it is too.

After some informal brainstorming with some MDN team members, we're going with "Hack on MDN for a better web"

The base URL of developer.mozilla.org should be fine.

OK to capitalize "Web"? Or is that against MDN style?

"Web" is fine.

Hi Janet, I am thinking we can incorporate that line and URL into something simple like this >

Let me know what you think.

That looks good.

It occurs to me that the name is not spelled out anywhere in the design. I realize that's challenging in a vertical layout like this. Would it be possible to replace "MDN" under the logo with the spelled-out "Mozilla Developer Network"? If not, then just go with this.

Thanks Janet, unfortunately with those tall and narrow dimensions the horizontal logo lock up with full wordmark we have will lose a lot of impact as it will need to be scaled down significantly to fit. I have however tried working 'Mozilla Developer Network' into the the copy. It's a bit lengthy, but let me know what you think as an option:

Janet, should there be a "the" in front of "Mozilla Developer Network"?

No "the", just "Mozilla Developer Network".

I know I asked for it to be spelled out, but now the CTA looks really wordy. How about putting "Mozilla Developer Network" in small caps, like in the horizontal lock-up? That would set it apart visually, and break up the wall of text.

That doesn't seem consistent with what I'm seeing on the MDN site, e.g. "The Mozilla Developer Network (MDN) is an evolving learning platform for Web technologies and the software that powers the Web."

Is that a new direction?

Are you suggesting keeping "Mozilla Developer Network" where it is, but switching to the wordmark treatment? We shouldn't mix type styles like that when it's all part of a sentence.

Sorry to internet one more opinion here, but how about simply:

Mozilla Developer Network for a better web

For a better web, Mozilla Developer Network

note: I need these banners for OSCON, July 20th.

Could we break it up into two?

Mozilla Developer Network
For a better Web.

I like Matej's suggestion. It solves the "wall of text" problem. There is no call-to-action, but maybe that should go on some other branding element, depending on context.

I agree. Let's go with Approved on my end with the suggested content from Matej.

That still feels like it's running together as a single thought. Could you either use the MDN wordmark or add a space so it feels more like a headline and subhead?

Hey Matej, based on our chat outside the bug, here's where I am at with this. Two options which allow the headline to read cleaner.

If all is good I can post the print ready files here.

They both look great to me.

Ali, do you have a preference? They don't seem different enough to warrant creating both.

Thanks, Matt.

Ali + Janet, if you need help with getting this ordered, please email me with the following information, and I will connect you with Staples:
- quantity you want to order
- date you need it to arrive by
- where it's shipping to (with contact information for the receiver)

And I'm going to resolve the bug, since design is done.

Hi Jen,

Just put in the order to create the banners with Bob Currie - we need to use these for OSCON as well, so took it on as part of the list of branding items to create.

Thank you
Sandra
