Currently when an app opens a rating window the Marketplace opens as a new window and the user has to switch back when he is done. Web Activities can have a returnValue to post back results (user did rate or cancelled?) and disposition: inline to be an overlay on top of the app. The UI needs to be reduced in that case to not have navigation. Existing examples of that pattern are Twitter Web Intents: https://dev.twitter.com/web/intents
fxosRate uses window.open to show the Marketplace rating page; which does open with the app context and doesn't have the login status for the user; but opens inline over the app. I filed a bug for them as well to use the web activity: https://github.com/dcoloma/fxosRate/issues/12
David for product input on how important ratings are on the roadmap.
