The older preferences window remembered what section you had open when it was closed and re-opened that section when you viewed the preferences again, even across restarts. It'd be nice if the newer tab-based preferences did that as well.
STR:
1. Open the Preferences view by going to Firefox -> Preferences on OS X (Tools -> Options on Windows, I believe).
2. Click a section on the sidebar that isn't the "General" section, like "Applications".
3. Close the Preferences tab.
4. Reopen the Preferences tab as in Step 1.
Expected: The Preferences tab opens to the section you had previously opened.
Actual: The Preferences tab opens to the General section.
Tested on Firefox Dev Edition 39.0a2 (2015-05-11) on OSX 10.10.3, although I imagine this is a cross-platform issue.

For context, this was a request from a user who uses the Preferences to quickly turn on and off their proxy: http://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/35zyfm/firefox_v3801_released/cra7emu
I can imagine similar use cases for other preferences that users change often.
