For a 'richer' experience whilst typing messages in the composition area for chat messages, an editor should be implemented that supports the following:

 - Limited markup, like bold, italic, underline.
 - Preview of emojis whilst typing or when inserted from a selection popup/ dialog.
 - Extensibility to support more HTML markup as deemed useful.

Basically, with an RTE it's possible to (pre)view your message as it would appear in the chat messages area before it's sent.
