Details

1) Open a bug in modal view 2) Press "follow" 3) Look for the "Save changes" button at the top of the page, that you were sure was there in the past Expected: Either... (a) The top of page save changes button is always visible (rather than only in edit mode) (b) The button appears even when not in edit mode, once someone has made a modification using non-edit mode features (like the follow button) Actual: Unable to find the save changes button... which confuses me. Have to scroll down to bottom of the page and press save there. Have only just realised what was causing me to get confused each time - I hadn't noticed that the button only appeared in edit mode.
Oh wait - the CC list actually updates immediately when the "Follow" button was pressed? That's pretty cool - but it's not clear that is happening - I think we need some status message or spinner, or something else to indicate it's happening immediately.
Summary: Display the top of page "Save Changes" button even when not in edit mode → Make it clearer that the "Follow" button updates the bug without needing a "Save Changes"
I think that in addition to some indication on the follow button itself, after pressing it, the "Add me to CC list (follow this bug)" checkbox at the end of the page (by the comment box) should disappear. With that checkbox gone, presuming no other changes have been made, pressing "Save Changes" would now be a no-op. As such the "Save Changes" button can be disabled. Users would then have a clear indication that there is nothing to save, so no need to press the button. (Like I've been doing for the last month or two, after every time I pressed follow haha).
i'm going to fix this as part of bug 1146766.
