Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.10; rv:38.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/38.0
Build ID: 20150525141253
Steps to reproduce:
Attempted to login to banking site with usual login details after update to Firefox 38.0.5.
1. Opened Firefox 38.0.5 on iMac Yosemite 10.10.2
2. Selected banking site login page from bookmarks
3. Noted password was shown (as bullets) in dialogue box
4. Replaced password with typed in password
5. Received failure message: wrong password/userid not matched
Actual results:
Had to clear all browser history to successfully log in, then logged out, and tried to login again, but got the same failure as previously.
Expected results:
Login to banking site with password as always
Could you test with a fresh profile to know if it's reproducible?

I created a fresh profile and was not able to reproduce the problem. I tried with and without save passwords selected in preferences. I next imported bookmarks from old profile. These bookmarks also do not result in the problem occurring.
Thus, a new profile seem to have cured the problem. So, what happened to cause this problem when the new update was used?

Please note, I was not able to login to this page using the previous profile. Only after I created a new profile was I able to login.
You can reset the current profile if the issue is back.

Anyway, it's a support request, I close it. You can use the support forum: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions

Did you just switch to Firefox from another browser recently? Did you import/migrate your data from another browser when Firefox asked? It's possible there was a cookie issue.

No. Did not just start using Firefox - I've been using it for many years, allowing updates always. With latest update, problems I outlined began.
Yes, it could be a cookie issue: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/delete-cookies-remove-info-websites-stored
