The idea for bug 1102409 was to get dev edition users to the point where ( by default ): * updates are downloaded and applied silently * the hamburger menu badge and update nag screen would only show if it has been 4 days since the last update. It looks like there is code that will do a desktop notification ( at least on OS X ) as soon as an update has been downloaded and can be applied. I think what I want is for there to never be a desktop notification - that we should rely on the hamburger badge instead ( as well as the hypothesis that most users will restart dev edition prior to the 4 day timeout )

I'll take a look at this after I'm done with bug 1171852.
I installed FF DevEdition a few days ago, and I'm also getting daily notifications about a new version ready to be installed. However the "new" version is the old version, which is version "53.0a2 ([installation date]) (64-Bit)", and the release notes show me that version 53.0a2 was published January 27, 2017. System and settings: Windows 10 Professional, Firefox and Firefox Developer Edition are both installed, Developer Edition is set as standard browser. Please let me know if you need further information.
