Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; rv:38.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/38.0
Build ID: 20150605094246

Steps to reproduce:

- Open a scratchpad (1st) via either hamburger button or Shift+F4 (it doesn't matter).
- Type "test".
- Press Save to save it in a file.
- Mark the word "test" with mouse, and rightclick>Copy.
- Open a 2nd scratchpad via either hamburger button or Ctrl+N (it doesn't matter)
- rightclick>Paste
- switch to the 1st scratchpad

Actual results:

You'll notice that the 1st scratchpad window title now has an asterisk (*)
meaning that it's content was supposedly edited.
So, if you try to close the scratchpad you'll be prompted "Do you want to save the changes you made to this scratchpad".

Expected results:

This should not happen.
Component: Untriaged → Developer Tools: Scratchpad
Correction: both scratchpads must be opened via hamburger button for the issue to occur.

So, corrected STR:
- open a scratchpad (1st) via hamburger button
- type "test"
- press Save to save it in a file
- mark the word "test" with mouse, and rightclick>Copy
- open a 2nd scratchpad via hamburger button
- rightclick>Paste
- switch to the 1st scratchpad.
Summary: Copying text between scratchpads causes the initial scratchpad to appear edited → Open 2 scratchpads via hamburger button. Type something in 1st and then save. Copy a word from 1st scratchpad (via rightclick) and paste it in 2nd scratchpad (via rightclick). The 1st scratchpad appears edited
Also, another case:

STR:
- open a scratchpad via hamburger button
- type "test"
- press Save to save it in a file
- mark the word "test" with mouse, and rightclick>Copy
- open windows Notepad
- rightclick>Paste
- switch to the scratchpad: it appears edited.

Scratchpad was removed in Bug 1519103 (Firefox 72). You can check the alternative in https://wiki.developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Tools/Deprecated_tools#Scratchpad .

The Scratchpad bug list was reviewed and I think this bug can be safely closed.
