1174806 - New tab onboarding for first-time users has awkward order of slides

Here are screenshots of the onboarding page ordering from bug 1165386: https://bug1165386.bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=8607182

I think it may be confusing to first-time users if the first thing they see is "Welcome to New Tab ... in order to provide this service we collect your info... you can turn this off by..." when really we have not explained what New Tab really is yet. We don't explain that until page 2.

I believe this was required to be on the first page because the user could cancel out before seeing anything else.

I've never been satisfied with any of the copy. But this has gone through round after round with Geof, Brand, the Engagement Team and Patrick.

Also, testing has proven that the on-boarding isn't especially effective.

At this point, what's proposed here satisfies our Legal obligations (especially insofar as it regards compliance with EU privacy laws).

I propose that after this round we re-group. If on-boarding doesn't help, then we should come up with an alternative solution for Fx 42/43 (if possible).

I just ran across this bug when searching for possible-dupes of another newtab bug.

I think this one can be closed, since it seems to be about specific onboarding content for ~2 (or more) generations into the past of the newtab page, and I'll bet that onboarding process is completely different now.

Mardak, can we close this?
