Steps to reproduce:

This GitHub issue says all:

http://jsbin.com/keleru/edit?html,js,console,output demonstrates it, that only Firefox messes with the cursor position when the input type is changed during run time.

Does not happen on other browsers.
I suggest to maintain cursor position only when switching between the types of text and input.
