I change the brightness a lot, and would love to see brightness in the finger-swipe-from-the-top pulldown (which shows notification and icons to toggle wifi, airplane mode, bluetooth, 4G and to go to settings). I have gotten used to this in iOS and it's helpful when I get a page while at a restaurant or in a movie.
This is a great candidate for an addon! Should be relatively straight forward to implement, and could be used to push product direction if enough people find it useful.
Not to dissuade anyone else from trying, but I might take a crack at this as an addon. Poked at a few things in dev tools and I think I might be able to piece it together.
And it looks like I've got something working: https://github.com/lmorchard/fxos-addon-quick-brightness Could use some style tweaking and additional eyes, but might be handy!
Happy to help try it out, but need a link to generic instructions on how to install an addon that's in github (maybe link it in the currently empty README?)...

I added a link in the README to the WebIDE docs. But, I also submitted a PR to the Hackerplace directory, which will ultimately be the easier way to install.
I think this should be built in, not just an add-on. If both iOS and android have quick access to this, I'm pretty sure their metrics told then to do so for good reason :-)

From UX triage: We love Les's addon. One point would be to increase the size of the circle indicator/control and make it similar to the one in Settings. I've NI Eric to see if he has any visual design comments. In regards to Ed's comment, we do not that it should be baked in. For every person who wants it there, there will people who don't. Since we do not have any mechanism to control the notification tray "stuff", we should leave it as an addon. Thanks for pinging the UX team.

I think the fact that both Android and iOS have a top level control for brightness is a strong indicator that there is demand for the feature, so I'll have to agree to disagree here.

This is one of the biggest limitations we have, and one a lot of current and past dgofooders have been asking for as far as I can tell.
FYR there's an addon contains bright slider https://github.com/gasolin/fxos-quick-settings

Hi, Sorry for delayed response! As Tiff mentioned the handle of the slide needs to be larger. We should use the same styling we have in settings as shown in the attached image. I also use the brightness option often and can see it being beneficial being baked in. Maybe we can add an option in settings to turn it on/off so it fits individual users wants?
