if you have a message with the following subject:
Subject: =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Pr=E6sentation?= af projektmodellen 
	=?ISO-8859-1?Q?p=E5?= Fredag

the subject will show with a [] (square) in it in the thread pane but not in 
the messages pane. It's because of the newline + tab char.

this bug (among many others) is fixed by proposed patch for bug 73403

Per comment 4, this bug should have been fixed by the fix for bug 73403.  That 
bug is marked Verified Fixed.  Henrik Gemal, I don't have an example email to 
test this with; do you?
