Although we could still add these apps to homescreen with 'add to homescreen' in the browser, it's really not intuitive for end users.

Naoki, Can you please check if this is 2.5 blocking and also assign it to the right team.
Thanks

I think this might be a product/feature request to have a way to pin the marketplace app company. NI? Caitlin.

yifan -
i'm confused as to what you are trying to do. i cannot tell if you are trying to pin the marketplace to the homescreen or if you are trying to pin an app that is inside the marketplace to the homescreen.
can you share the steps of what you tested and the expected behavior, with the expected and actual result please? this would be very helpful.
steps to test:
1.
2.
3.

Thanks for the effort and sorry that I should've made it clearer. This is probably more like a feature request.
steps to test:
1. Open marketplace app
2. Click the top left menu button
3. Choose 'popular' from the menu
expected result: 'Install' button displayed next to all apps for users to install and put them on the homescreen.
actual result: From the list of apps, we'll see 'install' and 'Open website' buttons. 'Open website' does exactly what it means but it requires additional steps from the browser menu to add it to homescreen which is not intuitive. As a user enters the marketplace app, I expect either apps or websites can be installed on the homescreen easily.

Yifan,
the main idea with the open website concept is that we want to start getting users to expect and use websites rather than download apps so from the marketplace, we're adding websites in the catalogue for users to find additional content and information when searching/browsing for 'apps'. The open website is also a new concept we're exploring to see how users would react to it and use (initiated from the need to replace e.me, where we have no data whatsoever on how users used it (if at all)).
However, Marketplace as an app has been fairly independent from the OS UX paradigms in the past, so when it makes sense to install in 1.3 and 2.0/.2, it may make less sense in 2.5 where pinning is added.
One of the things we now are working on is to see how Marketplace can evolve and become tighter integrated in to the content discovery experience. But to have different marketplace experiences for each OS version is not a reality.
I would say a wontfix for now.
