See attached screenshot. I had my email inbox open but switched away to Firefox. When I switched back to the email app my inbox rendered as you can see in the screenshot. I worked around this issue by closing the app from the card view and reopening it. I have not seen the issue since.

That's the placeholder text the virtual list widget uses when it's waiting for a response from the back-end. It's surprising for switching away and switching back to cause this to happen.
This really needs a logcat to begin to understand what's going on. Since the problem has not recurred and there is a family of bugs that can cause the per-folder mutex to be held for a long time but not forever, I'm clearing the blocking flag. (Also, this family of errors goes away in the convoy branch which should land for v2.5)
If anyone finds themselves able to reproduce, please provide a logcat as described at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Gaia/Email/RequiredBugInfo, thanks!

Also, for any bug that is "I went to another app, then back to email and it is not displaying correctly", I would really like to see bug 1176829 fixed, as the out of order custom element construction could lead to a lot of very odd bugs. It seems to show up in cases where the email app was open then in the background, then in the foreground.
