User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:38.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/38.0
Build ID: 20150525141253

Steps to reproduce:

Using Thunderbird 37.7.0 (But this problem applies to Firefox as well.)

Less additional bells and whistles, improve on what already exists; things like the spell check.

From the following spelling, guess what I am trying to spell - 'recepticals'. Think you got it? Here is what Thunderbird thinks I am trying to spell 'sceptically'. I am trying to spell a word that starts with 'r' not 's'. I might be a bad speller but I am not that bad and Thunderbird isn't even close. You probably got the word right; it is 'receptacle'. Notice how close I am to getting the word spelled correctly while Thunderbird seems to be flying up a colon somewhere (and not the punctuation mark).

If I where in the UK then I would really be 'sceptical' of the intelligence behind the spell check algorithm. But I am in the US, so naturally I am more skeptical than sceptical. Checking the options for spell check, I have English/Undited States selected.

Now lets add insult to injury: While Thunderbird suggests 'sceptically' for 'recepticals', it also thinks 'sceptical' is spelled wrong! Which it wouldn't be if I were in the UK.

This issues has occurred with other words as well. I usually get the correct spelling by copying the mis-spelled word and searching Google, which pops up the correct spelling 95% of the time. The other 5% is due to me not even being close to the correct spelling.

Actual results:

Got the wrong spelling.

Expected results:

Gotten the correct spelling.
Which specific spell checking settings/preferences do you have in Thunderbird, and where exactly?
