Reproducible with Firefox 40 beta 3, latest Aurora 41.0a1 and latest Nightly 42.0a2 2015-07-13 under Win 7 x64, Ubuntu 14.04 x86, Mac OS X 10.9.5. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open Firefox 39 beta (or below) with a new profile 2. Install a new search engine from AMO https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?atype=4 - it will be saved in searchplugins folder inside profile's directory 3. Open the .xml file previously saved and modify it's short name into a default search engine 4. Update the browser to latest Firefox beta version Expected results: The list of the search engines is the same with the one shipped by default Actual results: The search engines modified at step 3 are placed at the end of search engines list

just going through your list https://etherpad.mozilla.org/LAm9PuRUzv and looking to triage bugs. this says minor - just checking if it's a P3 type of bug or higher....

I'm not totally sure what this bug was expecting as an outcome, as the described outcome seems to be in conflict with bug 1109354 which this was raised from.
In any case, we no longer have default engines that are xml files (they are WebExtensions) and we do not support overriding of the default engines.
