As much as I love this feature, I am not sure it is worth interrupting or even highlighting it beyond showing the default avatar. Users who like to set their profile picture usually follow default avatars through to where they can upload their own. I do think when we launch a multi-user Firefox where the avatar plays an important role in distinguishing profiles, is the right time to promote the feature.
