Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:41.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/41.0
Build ID: 20150714004006

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open two windows.
2. Enter full screen in one of the windows.
3. Close the window while in full screen.
4. Close the last (non-full screen) window to exit Firefox.
5. Open Firefox. Should now be in full screen and impossible to exit (doesn't work with F11 or right click and pick "Exit full screen").

To get out of the situation I modified xulstore.json and the key "fullscreen".

Actual results:

Firefox can't exit full screen and the only way to get out of it is to modify xulstore.json.

Expected results:

Full screen mode should follow what the last window was set to. If the last window closed was non-full screen Firefox should start in non-full screen mode.
I cannot reproduce this issue with the steps to reproduce.

I tested on both Windows and Linux, with Firefox 41.0a2 (2015-07-15), and tested on both e10s and non-e10s mode.

Can you reproduce this issue when running in Firefox safe mode?
I'm a bit confused about the STR.

I want to make sure that you are talking about the kind of full-screen that happens when you press F11 and not the kind where youtube or another site shows a video or other content full-screen.

Does this STR require having multiple screens?

At step #3, you say "close the window while in full screen". How exactly do you accomplish that? Using the mouse, the keyboard, or somehow else?

At step #5, does Firefox open one window or two windows? Does it matter whether you've set Firefox to restore your previous windows/tabs in preferences?

I was unable to reproduce this using the following environment/STR:

* Cinnamon desktop running on Fedora
* Nightly Linux64 build from mozilla.org
* Launch Firefox to the home screen.
* Open a second window using Control-N
* In the first window use F11 to go full-screen.
* Press Control-W to close the first window while it is fullscreen.
* Press Control-W to close the second window which is not fullscreen. Firefox exits.
* Relaunch Firefox. A normal window opens.

I also tried this closing Firefox while it is full-screen. Firefox relaunches into full-screen but I can exit out of it correctly using F11.

At step 5, can you try opening the browser console (ctrl-shift-J) and see if there are any errors or warnings listed as you press F11?

Tried to reproduce the bug on windows 10, everything worked quite smooth, I guess that is good news.
it reproduce in mozilla/40.0.2
i can't reproduce it because we can easily come out from full screen window using f11.i tested it on mozilla/40.0.2
Can't reproduce on Firefox 41.0b7 on Linux (Mint 17.2; x64).

The only time the browser starts in full-screen for me is if the final window closed was fullscreen (not the penultimate one). But even then, the close button, Alt-F4 and F11 work as expected.

Closing this as incomplete due to lack of reply from the reporter and unable to reproduce.
Please feel free to reopen this case if the issue still reproduces on the latest build.
