User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:39.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/39.0
Build ID: 20150630154324
Steps to reproduce:
Was reviewing inbox for gmail account (imap), then click on sent mail folder to review sent messages.
Actual results:
The inbox message list persists in review pane when switching to sent mailbox. Upon mousing over the message list pane, the message list disappears with the movement of my mouse.
Expected results:
Upon selecting a mailbox folder to review, the message list pane should display the message in the selected folder. There should never be a disappearing of messages from view with mouseover.

Does it show if you have started Thunderbird in safe mode?

Hi. Yes, just tested and reproduced the observation in safe mode.

Oh, my apologies - I missed that you asked for test in Tbird safe mode and not in Windows safe mode. I previously confirmed that this does happen in Windows safe mode. The phenomenon does NOT happen in Tbird's safe mode. The sent folder messages appear as normal then. This suggests an add-on is causing the effect?
The add-ons that I have had running are
Attachment Extractor 1.3.5.1
LookOut 1.2.13
Minimize to Tray 1.1.2.1
Lightning 4.0.1
along with Shockwave Flash 18.0.0.209
Disabling all and restarting did not eliminate the disappearing message effect - only Tbird safe mode did.
Note that this only happens with gmail. My other mail account behaves normally. I can see my sent messages in the all mail folder. It's just clicking on the sent mail folder that results in message list (of the folder I'm navigating from - eg, inbox or all mail) disappearing with mouseover.
Something to do with gmail sent tag handling?

Tools menu (alT+T) > options > advanced > general and disable Hardware acceleration. Still a problem?

Yes, problem persists when hardware acceleration is disabled.

Because safe mode helped, I think the next logical step is try _removing_, one at a time,
Attachment Extractor 1.3.5.1
LookOut 1.2.13
Minimize to Tray 1.1.2.1
Lightning 4.0.1
(removing an addon will not remove your data - you can just reinstall the addon)

Hi - tried and no joy
- removed each one at a time, restart, effect persists [effect, to reiterate, is: on clicking sent mail folder, sent messages arent' displayed, instead current folder persists and messages disappear as I mouse over the list]
- removed all, restart, effect persists
So - running in safe mode fixes the problem, removing the extensions one a time does not fix it, removing all 4 extensions does not fix it.
I've reinstalled Lightning, left the other 3 removed for now.

Please try disabling hardware assist at tools | options | advanced | general
If that does not help, please use "add an attachment" to give us a screen shot

Hi, hardware acceleration has remained off since I tested it per comment 6.
Will upload screenshots.

Attached are screenshots - start from inbox, attempt to view sent mail list. Display remains at folder I'm starting in. Mouse-over disappears lines.
- Doesn't matter what other gmail folder I'm starting from. Can't show sent mail list, and whatever folder I'm in has list disappear with mouse-over.
- this effect only happens with Gmail, not my other mail account
- this effect happens on only Win 7 system, not on my mac.

I fixed it!
I thought I'd see if tinkering with the folder encoding or server smtp settings would help.
On right clicking the sent mail folder - I noticed the Repair Folder button. Gave that a shot - folder reloaded and ta-daa, I can see my gmail Sent Mail message list again, navigate to the messages I want to review and all the actions a well behaving Tbird should offer.
So, seems I had a corrupted folder index file (.msf)?
How does the index work when in safe mode (since problem disappears in safe mode).

Safe mode does in affect the functioning of indexes. If the problem did not happen in thunderbird safe mode and disabling HWA did not help, then the problem should have been caused by an addon. Perhaps your repair of an index helped an addon in some way.
