Replace the jpeg_metadata_parser by something that uses exif-parser. This should obsolete a bunch of bugs in the current parser. like bug 1184246.

https://github.com/mozilla-b2g/exif-parser is what I'm talking about.
After talking to :djf, it sounds to be wiser to keep the current parser and use the new one for the edit phase where we want to rewrite the Exif. We'll take that approach.
