Please turn off your caps lock. All caps makes it hard to read your comments.

That would likely be the domain of NVIDIA, not mozilla.
And, to cite the full text of the error
"Display driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered"
Severity: normal → major
Keywords: perf
OS: Unspecified → Windows 8.1
Summary: THUNDERBIRD NOW CRASHES AND IS VERY SLOW AFTER LATEST 38.1.0 UPDATE!!! I NOW GET "DISPLAY DRIVER STOPPED WORKING" ERROR IN WINDOWS 8.1 → Thunderbird 38.1.0 slow and crashes (graphics display driver reset). "Display driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered" error in Windows 8.1

OK, thanks Wayne... I'm still thinkin' it's mozilla at fault since this problem started with their latest release and nothing else on my PC has ever triggered a GPU error like thunderbird has (and repeatedly) until I implemented you suggestion! It has not crashed since....
AS REGARDS MY USE OF CAPS... I'M AN OLD ENGINEER AND IT'S EASIER FOR ME TO SEE AND TYPE THIS WAY ;-)
