User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:39.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/39.0
Build ID: 20150630154324
Steps to reproduce:
allowed the new version (38.1.0) to be installed yesterday. This was done this morning when I started my computer. I use a Macinstosh with OS 10.6.8
Actual results:
I can't go past the general window of Thunderbird. I have no access to the messages window. I can't read new messages, can't go to archives folders. In short, I can't use Thunderbird at all and I lost my archives (at least, i can't access them)
Expected results:
Thunderbird should have openend, as usual, the messages/file working window and allow me to work...

Version: unspecified → 38
Summary: new version does allow to go to the messages window, so can't read or see new messages → new version does not allow to go to the messages window, so can't read or see new messages

is there any way to find a clean preceeeding version (31.7) of Thunderbird and revert to it?

What happens if you start Thunderbird in safe mode per https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode ?
And, please post a screen shot using "Add an attachment".

Thank you. Already reverted to 31.7 two days ago with another source. I have to work, you know. Will never upgrade Tbird again. If it fails, i will turn to another soft. Consider case closed. Not here for fiddling with computers but work
The only issues I have seen in support on this sort of approach fall into two categories.
1. Safe mode made things work because they had an add-on that was not compatible with V38.
2. Safe mode made things work, but hardware acceleration caused an issue.
@philipon, you have filed a bug. Downgrading to a previous version is not grounds to close it. If you do not work with us, this bug may remain open for a decade unless someone bites the bullet and simply closes it as works for me. Personally I hate to see that as no one ever then knows if there was a bug or not. Wile I doubt there is a bug. There is no evidence to indicate that one does or noes not exist.

Looks like what happens when an incompatible folder add-on is present. (Manually sort folders springs to mind). Or the foldertree.json is corrupt.

I understand your point, but I scraped the V38 and will not reinstall it now : I have four weeks of urgent work before me. May be i'll try to update and see what happens by the end of august. I'll warn you then.

Indeed.
And I do wish the UI would have an indicator confirming that Safe Mode is being used, don't you?

at that time, we'll be glad to have more information. For now, we'll resolve this as incomplete
