Rather than truncation, do we know if operators have provided us with abbreviations that would prefer for we use. For example - Verizon would be VZN.

GSMA provides alost of full operator name v abbreviated operator names @ http://www.qtc.jp/3GPP/GSM/SMG_21/tdocs/P-97-067.pdf
