When I set the env variable MOZ_DEBUG_CHILD_PROCESS executing the test test_peerConnection_basicH264Video.html hangs and times out, because it encounters the following error:

Randel any idea if this is desired behavior, masking a real bug, safe to ignore,... ?

That option is likely incompatible with starting GMP processes (which have a timeout if they fail to start within a given time).  You need to have it relax or remove the timeout when using that var
